In June, Akeredolu faced health challenges after seeking medical treatment abroad. Despite his return to Nigeria in September, he continued to stay in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. On December 13, he took another medical leave, officially transferring power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who assumed the role of acting governor.

Upon his return to Nigeria in September, Akeredolu’s governance from Ibadan sparked public outrage. The situation intensified in July when his wife, Betty, announced the suspension of planned activities for her 70th birthday celebration. The decision was conveyed through Twitter, citing unforeseen circumstances related to her husband’s health as the cause for the postponement.
