He later obtained his Barrister at Law (B.L) in 1978, setting the stage for a prolific legal career. In 1998, Akeredolu earned the prestigious title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), a testament to his excellence in legal practice.

Akeredolu’s legal expertise found expression in various roles, including serving as the Vice Chairman of the NBA Ibadan Branch from 1992 to 1994 and as the National Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in 1988-1989. His commitment extended to the international legal community, as seen in his roles on the Council of the International Bar Association and the Pan-African Lawyers Union.

Akeredolu’s political journey was marked by key leadership positions within the All Progressives Congress (APC). In 2014, he assumed the role of APC Interim Chairman, demonstrating his organizational acumen within the party. His dedication to public service was further evident during his tenure as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State from 1997 to 1999.

Akeredolu’s political trajectory reached its zenith in 2017 when he was elected as the Governor of Ondo State, serving until 2023. His administration prioritized developmental initiatives, and he became known for his commitment to good governance.

Tragically, Akeredolu’s journey was marred by a battle with leukemia, a blood cancer that ultimately claimed his life at the age of 67. His health struggles did not diminish his dedication to public service, as evidenced by his continued service even during medical leaves.

Akeredolu’s legacy extends beyond his political achievements; it encompasses a life dedicated to the pursuit of justice, legal excellence, and public welfare. His co-founding of the Olujinmi & Akeredolu Law Firm stands as a testament to his commitment to the legal profession.

Rotimi Akeredolu SAN’s life journey, from a legal luminary to the helm of Ondo State, leaves an indelible mark on Nigeria’s legal and political history. As the nation mourns his passing, Akeredolu will be remembered for his contributions to the legal community, his unwavering political leadership, and the enduring legacy he leaves behind.
