The assault, which occurred in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi LGAs, resulted in the tragic loss of over 110 lives. Gen. Buba emphasized that the militants initiated chaos among the villagers prior to the arrival of the troops.
During a press conference in Abuja, Gen. Buba expressed the challenges faced by the military in responding to incidents, given the vast and rugged terrain covering about 2,315 square kilometers, with over 350 dispersed villages. The distances between these villages and the troops’ locations, often exceeding 90 kilometers, make accessibility difficult, impacting response times unless credible intelligence is available prior to an attack.
He lamented the grim turn of events on December 23, stating, “The militants unleashed mayhem on the villagers before the arrival of troops to the location.” The geographical complexities and lack of timely information have posed challenges for the military in effectively addressing such incidents.
