The certificates were issued on behalf of the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, by the Supervising National Commissioner for Rivers State, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu.

In her remarks, Agbamuche-Mbu congratulated the elected candidates and urged them to prioritise effective representation, stressing that their primary responsibility is to serve the interests of their constituents.

She also disclosed that Certificates of Return would be presented to winners in Kebbi State for the Zuru State Constituency election, as well as in Ekiti State for the governorship election.

National Commissioners representing the respective constituencies subsequently presented the certificates to the elected officials, formally confirming them as duly returned winners of their elections.

Meanwhile, the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered accelerated hearing in a suit filed by the Adolphus Wabara-led Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against INEC over the party’s ongoing leadership crisis.

Justice Salim Ibrahim granted the application after counsel to the plaintiffs, Chief Gordy Uche (SAN), informed the court that the matter was time-sensitive due to INEC’s revised timetable and activities for the 2027 general elections, which he said set a July deadline.

The plaintiffs are seeking an order compelling INEC to recognise the Kabir Turaki-led interim National Working Committee of the PDP and reflect the same on its official website.

They are also asking the court to direct the electoral body to update its records and publish the names of the interim National Working Committee members as submitted by the party’s National Executive Committee.

According to the suit, the list of the Kabir Turaki-led interim NWC was forwarded to INEC in letters dated May 4.
