The judge who was assaulted by a defendant in a Las Vegas courtroom last week has sentenced her attacker, Deobra Delone Redden, 30, on Monday, Jan. 8, to 19 months to four years in prison in an unrelated case. CONTINUE READING
Redden, who jumped over the bench and attacked Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus, had claimed he was turning around his violent past. The sentence handed down on Monday was in connection with a baseball bat attack on a person last year.
To prevent a second attack, Redden appeared in court in shackles with a mask on his face, flanked by a group of jail officers.
Before the recent assault, Redden had asked the judge for leniency, describing himself as ‘a person who never stops trying to do the right thing no matter how hard it is.’ However, when it became clear Holthus was going to sentence him to prison time, the court marshal moved to handcuff Redden, leading to a confrontation as he charged forward, yelling expletives, and had to be restrained by several court and jail officers and courtroom staff members.”
