In a statement released on Monday, the company highlighted its readiness to kickstart the production of refined petroleum products, following the delivery of the sixth batch of crude oil supplied by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited. This concluding shipment, consisting of one million barrels of Agbami crude delivered via MT ALMI SUN, finalized the scheduled six million barrels needed for the world’s largest single-train refinery to begin its operations.

Approximately a month ago, the Dangote refinery received its first batch of one million barrels of Agbami crude grade from Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited, a major player in the global and Nigerian crude oil trading scene.

Since the initial delivery, the refinery has been receiving crude oil in sequential batches, with the most recent 6th batch of one million barrels of Agbami crude being offloaded at the Single Point Mooring at the Dangote Offshore Oil Terminal on Monday.

Akin Omole, the Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, expressed confidence in the refinery’s imminent operational status, stating that the full delivery of the six million barrels would facilitate the initial run of the facility. This, in turn, would initiate the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas, paving the way for subsequent production of Premium Motor Spirit.

The significance of this milestone extends beyond the operational scope of the refinery, as it is expected to address fuel supply challenges not only in Nigeria but also in West African countries. The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, designed to process 100 per cent Nigerian crude with the flexibility to handle other crude types, boasts a daily processing capacity of 650,000 barrels. It can efficiently process various African crude grades, Middle Eastern Arab Light, US Light tight oil, and crude from other regions.

Moreover, the refinery is positioned to meet the entire refined product demand within Nigeria, encompassing gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet fuel. In a noteworthy accomplishment, the company asserts that it holds a surplus of each of these products for potential export, further solidifying its role in contributing to the regional and global energy markets.
