Joseph stated that he was not satisfied with the police investigation and highlighted specific areas of concern. When he brought Mohbad’s body to the police station, he expected them to accompany him to search his son’s house or provide him with the police autopsy report, which has not been provided. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation, urging the police to interview individuals who were living with Mohbad.

Expressing frustration, Joseph called for the examination of the deceased’s associates’ phones, believing it could reveal information about the circumstances leading to Mohbad’s death. He emphasized the importance of justice and pleaded with the government to allocate more resources to ensure a swift and fair resolution.

Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, and was buried the following day. The founder of his former record label, Marlian Records, Naira Marley, and Sam Larry faced scrutiny and were questioned by the police. Both denied any wrongdoing, and a nurse who administered injections to Mohbad was identified as a prime suspect.

Following public outcry, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, ordered a forensic investigation. The Lagos State Police Command established a 10-man team, including a pathologist, to exhume Mohbad’s corpse and investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.

In November 2023, the Lagos Coroner Court revealed that the autopsy’s crucial part, determining the cause of Mohbad’s death, was being conducted in the United States. The external body autopsy was completed, but the toxicology test on the internal body was still pending in the US.

Despite calls for the release of the autopsy report, the police spokesman in Lagos, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated in late November that the report from the US had not been made available to the Force. Efforts to obtain an update from Hundeyin on the investigation were unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls or messages as of the time of this report.
