In a recent interview, Onolememen sheds light on his gubernatorial aspirations in Edo State, outlining his reasons for seeking to succeed Governor Godwin Obaseki. He emphasizes that his interest in the position has been consistent over the past 15 years, and he believes the time is right for him to take on this responsibility.
As a seasoned government official, Onolememen brings a wealth of experience to the table, having served as the Executive Director of the Petroleum Trust Fund and as Minister of State for Defence under President Olusegun Obasanjo. Discussing the role of zoning in the upcoming election, Onolememen supports the notion that zoning is crucial, recounting the historical precedence of rotating the governorship among the senatorial districts in Edo State. According to him, the zoning arrangement points to Edo Central as the next in line, and he believes it is only fair for the district to have the opportunity to produce the next governor.
Addressing the issue of multiple aspirants from Edo Central, Onolememen acknowledges ongoing consultations within the district to eventually present a unified candidate for the APC ticket. He stresses the importance of managing differences within the party and fostering a harmonious process.
On the subject of godfatherism, Onolememen asserts that, within the APC, there is a sense of unity, despite individuals coming from different senatorial districts. He emphasizes the need to understand and resolve differences amicably, with a commitment to accepting the party’s ultimate decision.
Regarding his distinct offerings to the people of Edo, Onolememen mentions a focus on human and infrastructural development, emphasizing the critical role these play in fostering happiness and prosperity. He pledges to prioritize areas where the state is lagging behind and promises inclusivity during the campaign.
On the issue of stepping down for other aspirants, Onolememen suggests that the decision would depend on the circumstances, emphasizing the importance of fairness and merit in such considerations.
Despite his history as a foundation member of the PDP, Onolememen explains his move to the APC, citing a disagreement within the PDP during a senatorial primary. He highlights the camaraderie among individuals in both parties and expresses satisfaction with consultations across the senatorial districts.
In conclusion, Onolememen, known for his actions more than his words, affirms his visibility at the grassroots and assures that, with his wealth of experience and passion for the people, he is ready to contribute to Edo State’s development if given the opportunity to serve as governor.
