A statement issued by SP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the command, revealed that a complaint filed by 24-year-old Soyemi Abidemi Funmilola on January 13, 2024, triggered a comprehensive investigation conducted by the State Criminal Investigation Department.
The investigation successfully confirmed the officers’ wrongdoing, including tracing the account to which the extorted money was deposited. “The funds have been recovered and designated as exhibits. The Inspector, Rank and File have been detained for an orderly room trial, and the involved officer has been issued an official query, as per the directive of Commissioner of Police, CP ALAMUTU ABIODUN MUSTAPHA psc, with the Provost department overseeing the disciplinary proceedings,” stated SP Omolola Odutola.
Emphasizing the commitment to ethical standards, CP ALAMUTU ABIODUN MUSTAPHA highlighted the importance of respecting citizens’ fundamental human rights in various lectures delivered to the officers and men of the Command. The Ogun State Police Command explicitly stated its intolerance for any form of misconduct that violates the expected ethical standards.
SP Odutola confirmed that the complainant’s family had been contacted and was in communication with CP ALAMUTU ABIODUN MUSTAPHA, who assured them that the officers would be held accountable for their failure to adhere to the rules and regulations of the force. The Ogun State Police Command asserted its dedication to ensuring the safety and security of residents and their properties. The findings of the orderly trial proceedings will be publicly disclosed upon the completion of the investigation.
SP Odutola reiterated that the Ogun Police Command remains committed to upholding the rule of law and maintaining a transparent, respectful relationship in accordance with the Police rules and regulations.
