The agency received a distress call on January 17, alerting them to a case of alleged domestic violence involving a pregnant woman. Mrs. Vivour-Adeniyi disclosed that the expectant mother had been physically assaulted by her partner, who subsequently confined her within their Mushin apartment.
Tragically, the reported assault led to the pregnant woman losing consciousness. Prompt intervention by concerned neighbors prevented further harm, as they rushed her to the hospital for immediate medical attention. In response to the distress call, the DSVA swiftly contacted the Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad, leading to the arrest of the alleged perpetrator.
“The suspect has been apprehended, while the survivor remains unconscious,” Mrs. Vivour-Adeniyi confirmed.
She reiterated the state’s unwavering commitment to a zero-tolerance stance on domestic violence and emphasized the agency’s dedication to supporting survivors. Stressing the severe repercussions of domestic violence on both survivors and society, she underscored the government’s determination to hold perpetrators accountable.
Acknowledging the proactive role played by neighbors in reporting the incident, Mrs. Vivour-Adeniyi expressed gratitude and urged victims of domestic violence to break their silence and seek help.
