The decision to upgrade the platform was initially disclosed by Comptroller of Customs Adewale Adeniyi on January 10, 2024. He emphasized the service’s commitment to increasing transparency in its auction processes and ensuring the prevention of unauthorized access by hackers, ultimately aiming for more efficient operations.

In the official statement unveiling the upgraded e-auction platform, Maiwada stated, “In pursuit of its commitment to continuous improvement, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) unveils its revamped e-auction platform on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. This strategic move aligns with the guidelines outlined in the newly enacted Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023, showcasing the agency’s dedication to efficiency and fairness.”

He further explained that the new platform, accessible at auction.nigeriatradehub.gov.ng, represents an improved version of the previous portal. Its design is intended to ensure that Nigerians have equal opportunities to participate in the auction process, in line with the agency’s commitment to providing a fair and accessible system.
