In response to this development, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) reiterated its commitment to advocating for improved living and working conditions for Nigerian workers. The NLC, represented by Comrade Ambali Akeem Olatunji, expressed optimism that the anticipated new minimum wage would enhance the well-being of workers, particularly in light of the prevailing challenges following the removal of fuel subsidies.
Benson Upah, the head of information and public affairs for the NLC, conveyed the union’s stance in a discussion with leadership. He emphasized the NLC’s eagerness for the formal constitution of the new minimum wage committee. Despite the delay in the full implementation of certain aspects of the October 2023 15-point agreement, including the monthly payment of the N35,000 wage award, Upah affirmed the NLC’s unwavering dedication to prioritizing the welfare and living standards of Nigerian workers.
