The event took place at the Multipurpose Hall of the Government House, where Chief Judge Kashim Zanna, represented by Justice Haruna Mshelia, administered the oath of office.
The newly sworn-in local council chairpersons, including a woman from Jere Local Government, emerged victorious in the 2024 local council election held on February 20.
The group of 29 special advisers represents a diverse mix of Yoruba, Igbo, indigenous technocrats, and politicians from various local councils in the state.
Addressing the officials after the oath of office, Governor Zulum urged the new council chairpersons and other appointees to fulfill the expectations of the government and the people of the state while executing their respective duties.
Zulum emphasized, “To the elected local government chairmen, I urge you to discharge your duties with utmost honesty, impartiality, compassion, and fairness, working assiduously for the actualization of the shared prosperity mantra of our government.”
Highlighting the significance of local governments in the overall development focus, the governor called on the new council bosses to prioritize addressing issues such as poverty, joblessness, and insecurity.
Addressing the special advisers, Zulum emphasized the importance of considering the state’s interests in their advisory roles, reminding them that they work for the entire state and must avoid personal or sectional interests.
In their separate remarks, the Secretary to the State Government, the Head of Service, and the Commissioner for Local Government and Emirates Affairs urged the newly sworn-in officials to embrace strong patriotism, dedication, sincerity, and genuine commitment to the welfare of the people.
Tukur Digira, delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the officials, expressed gratitude to Governor Babagana Zulum for the opportunity to serve the state. He assured the governor of their commitment to their responsibilities and pledged to make a positive impact on the people of Borno State.
The ceremony witnessed the presence of Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur, Senators Ali Ndume (Borno South), Mohammed Monguno (Borno North), Kaka Shehu Lawan (Borno Central), and APC National Vice Chairman for the North, Ali Bukar Dalori. The event also had the Shehu of Borno, represented by Mallam Terab of Borno, Terab Kyari Sanda, the Shehu of Dikwa, Bama, and the emirs of Biu, Gwoza, Askira, Shani, and Uba in attendance. Other dignitaries included the Borno APC chairman, the Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Members of the House of Representatives Bukar Talba and Zainab Gimba, Secretary to the Borno State Government, Bukar Tijjani, Head of Service Mallam Fannami, commissioners, and other government and party officials.
