The Naira experienced a significant depreciation, dropping by 42% against the US dollar in just two days. FMDQ data revealed a new low of N1,482.57 per US Dollar on Tuesday, marking a 9% or 133.94 loss compared to the previous day’s closing rate of N1,348.63.

Omokri, a former special assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, asserted that the Naira’s status reflects the behavior of Nigerians. He criticized the preference for foreign airlines over Nigerian carriers on international routes, citing the recent payment of one billion dollars by the Central Bank of Nigeria to foreign airlines.

Highlighting the impact of consumer choices on the Naira, Omokri emphasized the need for Nigerians to support local businesses, such as choosing Nigerian airlines like Air Peace over foreign counterparts. He criticized the Central Bank’s expenditure of $200 million on the importation of human hair, suggesting that banning such imports could contribute to stabilizing the Naira.

Omokri drew attention to the paradox of Nigeria spending more on imported human hair than on educational materials, expressing concern about the negative impact of unnecessary imports on the economy. He urged President Tinubu to consider implementing measures to curb the importation of human hair, emphasizing the potential positive effects on the nation’s economy.
