Abdulhamid Najume, the Chairman of Munya LGA, confirmed the successful rescue in a statement to the Daily Trust on Saturday, February 3, 2024. Following an emergency security meeting, authorities mobilized security operatives who swiftly engaged the bandits, resulting in the safe recovery of all kidnapped individuals. The rescued victims are currently undergoing medical care in a hospital facility, and arrangements are underway for their reunion with their families.

Addressing concerns about primary schools being closed due to insecurity in the region, Najume reported that some schools have been reopened to facilitate the return of children who have been out of the classroom for an extended period. He emphasized ongoing efforts to renovate and improve school infrastructure to create a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

“We have reopened some of the schools and are renovating others to ensure they meet the necessary standards for effective education. As part of our commitment, we have distributed teaching materials like chalk and learning materials, including exercise books, to support parents and facilitate the return of pupils to school despite economic challenges,” Najume stated.

Expressing determination to address the prolonged absence of children from schools, Najume affirmed the local government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a smooth transition back to education for the affected students.
