The interception took place in the early hours of Sunday, January 28, at the Ojuelegba area of Lagos, where three vehicles transporting large bags of the psychoactive substance were apprehended. During the operation, two drivers fled on foot while the third, identified as 66-year-old Nasiru Ojomu, associated with the wanted Akala, Mushin-based drug baron Suleiman Jimoh (also known as Olowo Idi Ogede or Temo), was arrested.

Over the last three years, NDLEA operatives have consistently seized multiple shipments of the same psychoactive substance, valued in billions of naira, linked to the elusive Temo. Despite Temo’s evasion, the NDLEA continues its efforts to apprehend him.

In addition to the Lagos operation, the statement highlighted arrests in various states. In the Samaru area of Zaria, Kaduna state, a male suspect with hearing and speech impairments was apprehended for dealing in illicit substances, and 150 grams of cannabis were recovered from him. Ibrahim Sani, 56, was also arrested in the Tirkaniya area of Kaduna with 51 kilograms of the same substance.

Furthermore, in Kogi state, NDLEA operatives destroyed 833.32 kilograms of cannabis sativa on a farmland at Iluke community, Kabba-Bunu LGA, and arrested the owner, Samuel Atonila, 49. In Nasarawa state, three suspects—Muhammed Musa, Bilyaminu Musa, and Sadiya Ya’u—were arrested with 24.4kg of the psychoactive substance at Uke, Karu local government area. Additionally, in Ondo state, a significant amount of the substance, weighing 258 kilograms, was recovered from a bush store around Ikare bypass.

This recent operation follows the NDLEA’s December 2023 arrest of a 70-year-old grandmother and her son, who were apprehended after intercepting millions of tramadol 225mg pills, thousands of codeine syrup bottles, and bags of Canadian Loud ahead of the Christmas celebration.
