During the attack, four vigilantes sustained injuries. A resident, speaking anonymously to Punch on Thursday, revealed that news of the incident spread through their community WhatsApp group, raising concerns about the safety of individuals in Igelaara.
The source stated, “In our community WhatsApp group, I discovered that people started asking if people at Igelaara were safe. After asking around, we learnt that the gunmen attacked the area and killed two people and also kidnapped some persons. It happened at Alagemo, which is part of Igbelaara, Ijede, in Ikorodu.”
A Facebook user shared a video from the scene, highlighting that this marks the sixth kidnapping in the community within the past two months.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, confirmed the incident on Thursday, stating, “It happened around 11 am. Two persons died, four others were injured, and one woman was kidnapped.” He assured that the injured individuals were receiving treatment at the clinic and mentioned that an investigation into the incident has been initiated.
