Among the detainees was a 42-year-old man found transporting a large quantity of concealed opioid pills to an insurgent enclave in the Banki area of Borno state. The operation also led to the arrest of a six-month-pregnant lady, a mother of three, and three other women. This joint effort resulted in the seizure of over 7,609 kilograms of assorted illicit drugs across eight states.

The bulk of the seizures occurred in Nasarawa State, where NDLEA operatives intercepted a truck on Sunday, February 4, marked Lagos JJJ 64 YC. The vehicle was conveying 367 jumbo bags of cannabis sativa, weighing 4,037 kilograms, from Akure, Ondo State, destined for Shabu area in Lafia, Nasarawa’s capital. Three suspects, Shuaibu Yahaya Liman, Monday Audu, and Linus Samuel, were arrested in connection with this particular seizure.

In another operation in Abuja, the NDLEA arrested Jibrin Shuaibu, 23, and Prosper Innih, 17, with 169 bags and 80 blocks of compressed cannabis sativa weighing 1,961.5kgs concealed in a truck. This vehicle, with registration number Ogun WDE 557 XC, was intercepted during a stop and search operation along the Abaji – Abuja highway.

Further operations in Abuja led to the arrest of Abdulhameed Dauda, 27, and Hassan Ade, 30, with significant quantities of psychoactive substances. In Ondo state, the NDLEA recovered additional illicit substances, including cannabis and tramadol.

Borno state witnessed the apprehension of Ahmad Mohammed, a 42-year-old suspected supplier of illicit drugs to insurgents in Banki. He was arrested at the Bama checkpoint, and a search of his luggage revealed 20,000 capsules of tramadol.

In Anambra state, a six-month pregnant woman and another lady were among six suspects arrested for dealing in illicit substances. Similar operations in Lagos resulted in the arrest of Boluwatife Adebayo, Omolade Fola Adebayo, Ogah Sunday Adole, and others, with various quantities of cannabis, codeine syrup, Rohypnol, and other psychotropic substances.

NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the commendable efforts of various Commands across Nasarawa, FCT, Ondo, Kano, Borno, Edo, Anambra, and Lagos for their successful operations throughout the past week.
