Eight kidnap victims, consisting of five school children and three staff members of The Apostolic Faith Group of Schools in Emure Ekiti, who were abducted along the Emure-Eporo Road, have been discharged from Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital after a week of receiving medical care. Dr. Oyebanji Filani, the state Commissioner for Health, expressed joy at the successful rescue and treatment of the victims by the government. Speaking at EKSUTH during their discharge, he emphasized the government’s commitment to returning them to their community after their ordeal.

The Chief Medical Director of EKSUTH, Prof. Kayode Olabanji, assured the government that the victims would receive necessary medical attention upon their arrival last Sunday. He reported various conditions among the victims, including dehydration and panic, and highlighted the efforts of the medical teams in stabilizing and treating them. Clinical psychologists were brought in to address their fears, and they underwent resuscitation, including rehydration and oxygen therapy.

Mrs. Dorcas Ojo, the grandmother of three of the school children, expressed gratitude for the release of her grandchildren, attributing it to the prayers of the people of Emure Ekiti and Eporo Ekiti. She shared the traumatic experience the children endured during captivity, including being forced to trek long distances in the bush, constantly changing locations, and enduring days without food. Mrs. Ojo credited their survival to divine intervention and the collective prayers of their community.
