This directive, applicable to former Principal Officers to the Governor, Commissioners, Special Advisers, General Managers of Government Agencies, and others, was communicated through a statement signed by Oguwike Nwachuku, Chief Press Secretary, and Media Adviser to the Governor. The statement, released in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, emphasizes the necessity for compliance with the governor’s instructions.

Governor Uzodimma had initially issued a similar directive on January 16, 2024, when he dissolved the expanded Executive Council. At that time, Commissioners were instructed to hand over their official vehicles to the Permanent Secretaries in their respective ministries, while Special Advisers were required to submit their vehicles to the Office of the Chief of Staff.

While some former political appointees adhered to the instructions, concerns have been raised about others who have not complied, leading to suspicions of potential ulterior motives. In response, Governor Uzodimma is determined to ensure strict adherence to government directives and has authorized Chief Orie to employ all lawful means to compel compliance from the former appointees.

The governor expects Chief Orie to take custody of the vehicles assigned to the former appointees and conduct a thorough inventory, given their previous roles as principal officers, commissioners, special advisers, and general managers of government agencies. This move reinforces the governor’s commitment to upholding accountability and transparency within the government machinery.
