The Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Doris Uzoka-Anite, has detailed the key initiatives devised by the Tinubu administration to expedite economic growth and job creation. She highlighted the ministry’s active involvement in negotiating Nigeria’s accession to the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA), emphasizing its potential for export diversification, market access expansion, and increased foreign direct investment.
Uzoka-Anite underscored various initiatives targeting reforms in the commodity trading landscape, with a focus on delivering better outcomes for farmers and miners. The ongoing efforts include the upgrading of the Nigeria Commodity Exchange (NCX) operations, robust outreach programs, and the establishment of a National Job Centre.
Among the highlighted initiatives is the Skill-UP Artisans program (SUPA), which aims to empower 10 million artisans with tech-enabled skills and industry-standard certifications. This program is designed to address skills gaps and reduce reliance on labor imports.
The minister emphasized the ministry’s commitment to innovative solutions and cross-sector collaboration. Key attendees at the briefing included the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Dr. Ngozi Onwudiwe. Also present were Chief Executive Officers of agencies under the two ministries.
