The appalling event occurred near the town of Faryab in Kerman province, as detailed by provincial chief justice Ebrahim Hamidi.

According to official reports, the 30-year-old assailant, driven by a family dispute, used a Kalashnikov weapon to carry out the gruesome act, which claimed the lives of his father, brother, and ten other relatives. The situation escalated further as security forces engaged in a shootout with the perpetrator in an attempt to apprehend him, resulting in his death.

Mass shootings are uncommon in Iran, where strict regulations limit civilian access to firearms, typically restricted to hunting rifles. This tragic incident marks a rare occurrence of such violence within the country’s borders.

This disturbing event comes on the heels of another shooting incident in the same province earlier in the year when an army conscript opened fire within a military base, resulting in the deaths of at least five soldiers before fleeing.

As authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding these tragic events, the nation mourns the loss of lives and grapples with the shock of such unprecedented violence within its communities.
