A 24-year-old man, Effiong Samuel, has been sentenced to a one-year imprisonment by a Chief Magistrate Court in Odigbo for the theft of a mobile phone valued at N54,000……..CONTINUE READING
Effiong pleaded guilty to a single count of stealing, leading to his conviction and subsequent jail sentence. According to the prosecutor, James Usifo, the offence occurred on December 23, 2023, around 10 am at Asejire village via Otu Costain in Ore. The stolen item was identified as an Android POP 6 Phone valued at N54,000, belonging to Tobi Omosehin.
The prosecution invoked Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Vol 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006, to establish the legal basis for the case. Given the defendant’s admission of guilt, Usifo asserted that further proof was unnecessary and requested the court to proceed with the conviction.
Chief Magistrate O. Ogunfuyi, accepting the defendant’s plea and the prosecutor’s submission, sentenced Effiong Samuel to one year in prison with no option of fine.
