As the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt and Chairman of the Kebbi Council of Emirs, Iliyasu-Bashar emphasized the importance of considering Nigeria as a collective responsibility, urging citizens to view each other as brothers and sisters. He stressed the need for sacrifice to maintain the unity of the vast and diverse country.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve in various capacities across the nation, the emir commended God Almighty and acknowledged the smooth administration of the university by Prof. Owunary and his team.
