In an official statement released on Thursday, February 22, 2024, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, revealed that Boderi met his end in an ambush executed by troops from the 1 Division Army along the Bada – Riyawa axis on the Kaduna – Birnin Gwari Road. Another prominent figure, Bodejo, was also neutralized in the operation.
The ongoing offensive in Igabi, Giwa, and Birnin Gwari Local Government Areas of Kaduna State yielded additional successes, with the recovery of arms and ammunition by the vigilant troops.
The statement highlighted the troops’ response to recent insurgent attacks in Igabi and Giwa Local Governments, where insurgents deployed rustled herds of cattle as shields during a firefight along Maganda-Dausayi – Mugaba axis. Despite the insurgents using livestock as cover, the troops responded promptly, resulting in the neutralization of two insurgents. The recovered items included an AK 47 rifle, an AK 47 magazine, ammunition, a Techno phone, vehicle keys, substances suspected to be marijuana, tramadol tablets, and a sum of 13,200 Naira.
In a separate operation on February 22, 2024, troops conducted a successful ambush along the Bada – Riyawa axis on the Kaduna – Birnin Gwari Road. Six insurgents were neutralized, and the troops recovered 2 AK 47 rifles, 5 AK 47 rifle magazines, 300 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, and 19 motorcycles, all of which were destroyed on-site.
The statement concluded by stating that intelligence sources reported the death of Boderi and another kingpin, Bodejo, in the ambush. Efforts are underway to verify this information through other means. The public was urged to continue cooperating with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in the ongoing battle against terrorism and insurgency in the country.
