The sad news was shared by a close friend and colleague, Ojo Famujimi, through a Facebook post on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Famujimi revealed that the bandits targeted Donfah’s house shortly after his return from Abuja.
The late officer had retired from the Nigerian Army just two years ago, and Famujimi reminisced about their enduring friendship that began at the 72 Airborne Battalion in Makurdi, Benue State. He highlighted Donfah’s early days as a young and dynamic soldier, with both friends sharing a passion for education and knowledge, eventually leading them to pursue careers in the medical field.
Famujimi recalled their joint efforts during the religious war in Kaduna in 1999, where they successfully led a troop to rescue a church from religious extremists in Ungunwan Dosa. Donfah’s military journey took him to various conflict zones, including Liberia, Sierra Leone, Sudan, and other foreign countries, where he remarkably survived.
Tragically, just two years after his retirement, bandits attacked Donfah’s home in Kaduna upon his return from Abuja. During the incident, his wife was abducted but tactically rescued from their captors. Unfortunately, Lieutenant Colonel Godwin Highlife Donfah lost his life while courageously attempting to save others.
In a heartfelt farewell, Famujimi expressed disbelief and sorrow, addressing Donfah by the affectionate nickname “Highlife” and stating that it is too early to bid farewell. The post concluded with a poignant tribute, “Lt Col Godwin Highlife Donfah, it is hard for me to say goodbye. RIP friend.
