Governor Abiodun revealed that the rice would be subsidized and made available at pre-hike prices. He specified that the underprivileged, elderly, and vulnerable segments of the population would receive free rice allocations, while others could purchase it at the previous affordable rate.

“We have decided to provide essential food items like rice, garri, and beans. I have ordered nearly 100 trailers of rice, with offloading scheduled to begin tomorrow,” stated Abiodun. He emphasized the commitment to sustaining this effort until the challenges associated with the surge in the dollar exchange rate are resolved.

The Governor reassured the people of Ogun State that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is effectively managing the situation, and tangible outcomes from various policies aimed at curbing inflation will soon become evident.

Highlighting discussions with the Central Bank Governor, Mr. Yemi Cardoso, Abiodun conveyed optimism that the dollar’s value would soon decrease. He urged citizens to remain patient, emphasizing that the current difficulties are temporary.

In response to the prevailing hardships, Abiodun’s administration recently announced interventions totaling over N5 billion. Tertiary students from Ogun State across the country will receive N50,000 each, while secondary and primary school students, numbering around 800,000, will receive assistance in phases. The first phase involves 100,000 students receiving N10,000 each, with those not covered receiving five exercise books while awaiting subsequent phases.

The Governor disclosed plans to offer free medical care, including insurance cards worth N18,000, to women and the elderly. Additionally, a monthly allocation of about N500 million will be dedicated to offsetting civil servants’ deductions in the state public service.

Abiodun appealed to Nigerians, particularly the youth, not to be swayed by nefarious elements attempting to disrupt the country’s peace. He acknowledged the challenging times but encouraged citizens to remain patriotic and calm, as solutions are being implemented to address the nation’s current predicaments.
