In the midst of the ongoing forex crisis in Nigeria, Senator Ned Nwoko has urged his fellow lawmakers to implement a ban on the utilization of dollars within the country.
Addressing the plenary session on Thursday, February 22, Nwoko expressed his belief that such a measure would contribute to the strengthening of the Naira.
“I have consistently highlighted the underlying issue we face in Nigeria, and that is the coexistence of dual currencies. No sustainable economy can thrive under such circumstances. It is crucial to recognize that we have marginalized the importance of the Naira, with everyone focusing on the Dollar, which is exacerbating our problems.
While acknowledging the complexity of this proposal, the necessary course of action is to discontinue the use of dollars in Nigeria. By taking this step, we can initiate a positive transformation in our economic landscape,” he remarked.
