According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the distress call on February 23, 2024, reported the first body found by Abubakar Shehu, leading the patrol team to the scene. The deceased was taken to ATBU teaching hospital, where a medical examination confirmed the death. Another distress call on February 19, 2024, reported a second corpse in the same location, with no apparent signs of physical injury but forcibly punctured eyes. The suspects, Hoomvez Martins Nyelong, Daniel Audu Adamu, and Maigari Inuwa, were spotted in the area earlier and arrested when they failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for their presence.

Exhibits recovered at the scene included razor blades, empty bottles, sachets of water, candles, blood-stained sticks, and torn shorts. Investigations revealed WhatsApp chats on Nyelong’s phone linking him to the disposal of the first corpse, identified as Reheboth Joseph Deshi. The Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, emphasizing the police’s commitment to ensuring a secure environment through collaborative efforts with stakeholders. Ongoing investigations aim to uncover additional accomplices involved in the alleged cult-related murders.
