According to sources, the clash escalated when Abbey was allegedly stabbed by an unidentified person during his intervention, leading to fatal injuries. The ensuing tension triggered a retaliatory clash between the Yoruba and Hausa communities in the vicinity. This retaliatory violence resulted in the destruction of food items, particularly peppers and onions, which were being sold by the Hausa traders in the market. Commercial activities in the area were severely disrupted.

Residents, including one identified as Christopher, shared their experiences, noting that initial warnings to stay away from the Oluwole Market area were disregarded, assuming the situation had been resolved. The intervention of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the police became necessary to quell the escalating tension in the area.
