The sacking of Atawodi by the current governor is perceived as a catalyst for what has been described as a “silent crisis” between the two leaders. Although the exact reason behind Atawodi’s dismissal has not been officially disclosed, political observers speculate that it may be linked to the alleged misappropriation of rice intended for distribution to impoverished constituents.

Sources indicate that Governor Ododo accused Atawodi of diverting 1,200 bags of rice, a claim purportedly orchestrated by the deputy governor, Joel Salifu Oyibo. Allegedly, Oyibo instructed Atawodi to distribute the rice to party stakeholders rather than the intended beneficiaries. Atawodi opposed this directive, deeming it insensitive given the prevailing economic challenges and high cost of living.

Atawodi’s defiance reportedly incurred the wrath of the deputy governor, leading to his exclusion from the rice distribution venue. Instead, Oyibo appointed a loyalist of Alfa Muhammed, identified as Musa Muhammed Lawal, to oversee the distribution.

In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, Lawal can be seen collecting the 1,200 bags of rice allocated to the Ofu council. Sources allege that Lawal subsequently sold the rice in Lokoja, the state capital, at the behest of Alfa Muhammed and Joel Oyibo.

Consequently, Governor Ododo approved Atawodi’s immediate removal as the Transition Chairman of Ofu Local Government Area and appointed Musa Muhammed Lawal, alias Solar, as his replacement.

This development underscores the shifting alliances within Kogi politics, with Atawodi, a former loyalist of Yahaya Bello, now viewed as a threat to the current administration. Conversely, Alfa Muhammed, once a staunch supporter of Bello, has aligned himself with Governor Ododo.

A source revealed a sequence of events leading up to Atawodi’s dismissal, highlighting tensions that arose during the distribution of palliative rice. Despite challenges faced by Atawodi, including delays and bureaucratic hurdles orchestrated by party officials, the rice has yet to reach its intended destination at the council Secretariat.

In a surprising turn of events, Atawodi’s dismissal came shortly after the completion of rice distribution, further fueling speculation regarding the underlying motives behind his removal.
