President Bola Tinubu has issued a stern warning to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), urging them to prioritize peace and desist from frequent strikes, emphasizing that they do not solely represent the collective voice of Nigerians.
Tinubu conveyed this message during the inauguration ceremony of the Lagos Red Line rail on Thursday, February 29. The NLC and affiliated unions had recently protested on February 27, citing concerns about the soaring cost of living, inflation, insecurity, and general hardships in the nation.
In his response on Thursday, Tinubu stated, “Allow me to express a viewpoint. The Labour Union must recognize that freedom and rights are not exclusive to them. If they wish to engage in the electoral process, we welcome them in 2027. Alternatively, let there be tranquility. Nigeria’s voice is not singular, and they are not the sole representatives.”
The President’s remarks come as a plea for cooperation and a reminder that multiple voices contribute to the nation’s discourse. Tinubu’s stance underscores the importance of maintaining peaceful dialogue and exploring democratic channels for addressing concerns.
