A fire incident occurred at Kpakpando FM, a private radio station located in Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The unfortunate event took place around 9:30 pm on Thursday, resulting in the destruction of the station’s office building and partial damage to its studio equipment.
Engr Martin Agbili, the State Fire Chief, confirmed the incident, assuring that no lives were lost due to the swift response of his firefighting team. He reported receiving a distress call at approximately 9:39 pm on Thursday, prompting the immediate deployment of their fire truck and dedicated firefighters to the scene.
Agbili explained, “At about 9:39 pm of Thursday, 07-03-2024, Anambra State Fire Service received a distress call of a fire outbreak at KPAKPANDO FM, MBAUKWU. Immediately, we deployed our fire truck and gallant firefighters to the scene of the fire. We successfully fought, controlled, and extinguished the fire.”
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. The office building suffered partial damage, and some studio equipment was affected, although prompt action by the firefighting team saved certain equipment and other parts of the structure. The firefighters concluded their operations at the scene around 11:18 pm.
