The Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mele Kyari, announced that the Port Harcourt refinery is set to commence operations within the next fortnight. Kyari made this declaration while addressing the Senate ad-hoc committee investigating the Nigerian Refineries’ Turn Around Maintenance (TAM) Projects.
During the hearing, Kyari revealed that over 450,000 barrels of oil had been stored at the Port Harcourt refinery. He emphasized the corporation’s commitment to fulfilling its promises regarding the rehabilitation of the refineries, ensuring that they operate efficiently.
“We are dedicated to serving our country with integrity,” Kyari affirmed. “We stand by our pledge to rehabilitate these refineries. The mechanical completion of the refinery, as stated in December, has been achieved. Crude oil has been stocked, and regulatory compliance tests, mandatory for refinery operations, are underway. I assure you that the Port Harcourt refinery will be operational within the next two weeks.”
Kyari further reported progress on the Warri refinery, noting that mechanical work had been completed, and it was also undergoing regulatory compliance tests. He assured that similar processes were in motion for the Kaduna refinery, which is expected to be operational by December.
In conclusion, Kyari reiterated the corporation’s commitment to ensuring the readiness of all crude lines supplying the refineries, underscoring their determination to enhance the nation’s refining capacity.
