In a significant operation within the 1 Division area of Kaduna State, Nigerian Army troops have thwarted a kidnapping attempt by a violent extremist and insurgent group, rescuing abducted individuals in the Tantatu community of Kajuru Local Government Area.
The Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, announced this remarkable achievement in a statement released on Monday, March 18, 2024.
Acting on actionable intelligence, the troops swiftly responded on March 17, 2024, around 10:30 pm, tracking down the insurgents who had earlier raided the community and taken several villagers hostage.
Upon reaching the scene, the troops diligently pursued the insurgents, engaging them in a fierce firefight and successfully rescuing 16 kidnapped individuals.
The operation continues as the troops persist in combing the surrounding areas to locate and free any remaining captives, while also thwarting further nefarious activities by the insurgents.
Commending the troops for their swift and effective action, Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja expressed gratitude for the successful rescue operation. He urged the soldiers to maintain vigilance as they carry out ongoing counter-insurgency operations aimed at securing troubled regions across the nation.
Nigerian Army troops have demonstrated their unwavering commitment to safeguarding communities and preserving peace in Kaduna State.
