Gunmen have fatally shot Apostle Elisha Asuquo, the founder of the Mount of Solution Redeemed Church (MSRC), and Pastor Aniekan Ibanga, the church’s pastor, in Ikot Ekang, a community situated in the Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The tragic incident occurred when unidentified gunmen invaded the National Headquarters of the Church around 7:30 pm over the weekend, interrupting an ongoing parish meeting.

According to a resident, the assailants arrived at the church premises on a motorcycle and fled via the Abak-Ikot Ekpene Federal Highway after carrying out the heinous act.

Apostle Asuquo, originally from Adiasim in Essien Udim Local Government Area, was reportedly mediating a contentious marital reconciliation case between a woman and her estranged husband just before the unfortunate event took place. Pastor Aniekan Ibanga hailed from Ikot Obioikpa village, Afaha Obong Clan, in Abak LGA.

Community leader Bishop John Jeremiah Kpongkpong expressed shock at the killings, emphasizing that such a gruesome occurrence had never happened in the community before.

Describing the sequence of events, Bishop Kpongkpong recounted receiving distressing calls informing him of the deaths while attending a church program. He promptly notified the Village Head and contacted the police, who arrived at the scene to investigate.

Chief Christopher Udotim, leading a delegation from Ikot Obio Ikpa Village where Pastor Aniekan Ibanga hailed from, visited the Palace of the Village Head of Ikot Obioikpa to inquire whether any prior issues involving the church had occurred, potentially leading to the fatal attack on their community member.
