Several fatalities have been reported following a clash between rival youth factions in the Mikang Local Government Area of Plateau State. The confrontation, which erupted on Saturday night between Taroh and Motola youths, persisted until the early hours of Sunday, resulting in numerous injuries as well.

Confirming the incident, the State Commissioner for Information, Musa Ashoms, attributed the conflict to a disputed land issue within the locality. He expressed regret over the escalation of the situation, emphasizing that it could have been prevented. Ashoms revealed that casualties were receiving medical attention in hospitals.

According to Ashoms, the root cause of the clash stemmed from disagreements over land ownership, with emotions running high among the parties involved. Despite efforts to mitigate tensions, the conflict escalated, leading to property damage and physical harm to individuals.

In response to the incident, Ashoms urged the community to embrace peaceful dispute resolution mechanisms rather than resorting to violence. He emphasized the importance of dialogue and cautioned against taking matters into one’s own hands.

Meanwhile, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Alabo Alfred, disclosed that security personnel had been dispatched to the area to restore calm. Investigations into the matter are ongoing, with assurances that normalcy has been restored in the affected region.
