The Niger State Police Command has apprehended Mustapha Ishaku, a suspected gunrunner, and dealer of locally manufactured AK-47 rifles, in the Mandela area of Minna, the state capital. SP Wasiu Abiodun, the command’s spokesperson, revealed this in a statement issued on Saturday, March 30, 2024. The statement mentioned the recovery of three makeshift rifles from Ishaku.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ishaku confessed to being a welder and admitted to fabricating over twenty rifles with an individual named Bala, who is currently evading arrest. The arrest occurred on March 17, 2024, around 11:30 pm, following a credible tip-off received by police operatives attached to the Crack Squad of the Command.
During interrogation, Ishaku disclosed that he had sold three of the rifles to buyers in Izom for a hundred thousand naira each. Additionally, two of the recovered rifles were intended for supply in Izom at the same price. The Crack Squad is actively pursuing leads to locate and apprehend the buyers to retrieve the rifles.
