Kidnappers Strike UNICAL: Three Students Kidnapped From School Hostel

The Cross River Police Command has confirmed the abduction of at least three students from the University of Calabar (UNICAL). In a brief statement released on Sunday, SP Irene Ugbo, the command’s spokesperson, verified the incident, revealing that the students were taken from a hostel on the university campus late Thursday night.

While specifics about the abduction were not disclosed, Ugbo assured that the police are working closely with other agencies to secure the safe release of the kidnapped students.

An unnamed source provided the names of the abducted students, which include Ojang Precious Ebejin, a 200-level student in the Department of Medicine and Surgery, Ugwu Chukwuemeka, a 300-level student in the Department of Genetics and Biotechnology, and Damilola Dickson, a final-year student in the same department.

In a related development, gunmen suspected to be kidnappers raided a Celestial Church in Ogun State, abducting two members identified as Oladapo Seyifunmi and Oluboboye Abiola. SP Omolola Odutola, the state Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed this in a statement via X platform on Friday.

The incident occurred at the church near Oriyarin village, Mowe, in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. The perpetrators fled through a dense forest behind the church.

Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun, has been briefed on the situation, and he has ordered the immediate mobilization of security personnel to pursue the hoodlums.
