Armed assailants launched a brazen attack on a luxury bus at Oke Ado Junction, Ijebu-mushin, along the Ijebu-Ode-Benin Expressway, on Saturday. The passengers, en route to the southeast for Easter celebrations, fell victim to the ambush.

According to SP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, the criminals, wielding cutlasses, intercepted the bus without firearms. Following the robbery, they proceeded to set the bus ablaze.

The targeted vehicle, a 59-seater luxury Mercedes Benz bus, belonged to Ifesinachi Transport Limited. Accounts from affected passengers, shared via social media by Chude Nnamdi, described a harrowing ordeal of being robbed, stripped of belongings, and trapped inside the burning bus.

Despite the traumatic experience, there were no casualties reported among the passengers. However, injuries were sustained, and valuable possessions were lost.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent security challenges facing travelers on Nigerian highways. As investigations continue, authorities urge vigilance and caution while traveling, especially during festive periods.
