Osun State’s monarch, Oluwo of Iwo, Oba AbdulRasheed Adewale Akanbi, has issued a stern warning to government officials and political leaders against the hoarding of palliatives designated for the populace.
Akanbi emphasized that those engaged in such actions are bound by a curse and risk invoking the divine displeasure.
Speaking to journalists during the distribution of food supplies to the underprivileged in Iwo on Monday, the monarch expressed his concerns.
He remarked, “Hoarding palliatives by any government or political office holder is tantamount to invoking a curse. It is imperative not to incur divine wrath, especially during the sacred periods of Ramadan and Easter.”
Akanbi stressed the importance of sharing resources rather than keeping them solely for personal consumption. He exemplified this ethos by actively distributing aid to those in need, asserting that true leadership entails serving the people and treating them with dignity.
Furthermore, the monarch urged affluent individuals across Nigeria to extend assistance to the less privileged within their communities.
“In this time of renewal, of forging new beginnings, it is crucial for individuals to support their neighbors. The wealthy should lend a helping hand to the poor, fostering collective growth and combating corruption,” he stated.
Akanbi called upon fellow traditional rulers to bridge the gap between the government and citizens, advocating for direct engagement with their subjects.
“Traditional rulers serve as vital intermediaries between the government and the populace. By personally meeting with our people, we can better understand their needs and concerns,” he explained.
He emphasized the importance of sincerity in these endeavors and highlighted the unique ability of traditional leaders to connect with their communities.
During the distribution of aid, Akanbi emphasized a fair and impartial sharing approach, ensuring that resources are allocated equitably.
