A stray canine, purportedly scouring for sustenance, stumbled upon a newborn baby boy abandoned in a forest within the Abagana community, situated in the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to an account provided to the Nigerian Tribune by a source, the stray dog carried the infant across a bustling thoroughfare and deposited him in a public area, seemingly with the intention of attracting the attention of passersby for rescue.
“The dog discovered the baby within a discarded plastic bag in the forest. From our assessments, it appears that the infant had been left unattended in the forest for approximately two days before the dog came across him,” stated the source.
Furthermore, the source added, “The baby appears to be in a satisfactory condition; his health is stable.”
A video circulating online depicts a woman cleansing the infant while denouncing the unidentified individual(s) who callously abandoned the child in the forest, leaving him vulnerable to the threat of wild animals.
Expressing incredulity, the woman questioned how a mother could endure a nine-month pregnancy only to forsake her newborn in such a manner.
