Osun Police Issue Stern Warning To Dog Owners: Keep Pets Confined In Cages

The Osun State Police Command has issued a stern warning to dog owners, urging them to ensure their pets are confined within a secure area to prevent attacks on individuals.

According to a press release by the command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, there has been a noticeable rise in incidents involving dog attacks on people in recent times, constituting a serious concern.

The statement emphasizes that it is an offense for a dog owner to neglect control over their pet, leading to unrestrained attacks on individuals. As a preventive measure, the police advise dog owners to keep their pets restrained within their homes, either in cages or on leashes.

Furthermore, the police stress the importance of vaccinating dogs to mitigate the risk of transmitting rabies in case of a bite incident.

In the statement, it’s highlighted that dog owners must adhere to the Dog Acts Cap 35 Law of the Federation of Nigeria, which mandates responsible ownership, including vaccination, proper control, and ensuring dogs do not pose a threat to the public.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Abba, underscores the commitment of the police to uphold peace and security in Osun State. He urges compliance with regulations to maintain the state’s peaceful status.
