Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced the complete settlement of pension arrears dating back to 2014, benefiting approximately 12,500 pensioners. Speaking at the Government House in Umuahia, Otti pledged to ensure that pensioners are promptly paid in the future, with payments scheduled to be disbursed alongside regular workers’ salaries by the 28th of each month.
Highlighting the economic significance of clearing pension debts, Otti emphasized the positive impact on the state’s economy, citing the injection of funds into the system. He expressed satisfaction in witnessing pensioners who previously struggled to afford necessities now able to sustain themselves, noting the circulation of money within the state’s economy as pensioners spend their earnings locally.
Addressing concerns regarding Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State (BCA) pensioners allegedly excluded from the arrears settlement due to non-verification, Otti assured that necessary investigations would be conducted. He refuted claims that BCA pensioners were neglected during the verification process, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of all pensioners in the state.
