Nigerian Resident In India Nabbed For Renting Second Home For Drug Stash

The Bengaluru branch of the CCB’s anti-narcotics unit has apprehended a Nigerian individual suspected of involvement in drug trafficking, seizing approximately 4 kilograms of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) crystals in the process.

According to a report by the Times of India dated April 9, 2024, the accused, identified as Henry Chukwuemeka aged 36, resides in Anjanadri Layout, Jalahalli West, situated in northern Bengaluru.

Acting on a tip-off, investigators conducted a raid on Chukwuemeka’s primary residence at 3:30 PM on April 6, 2024. Although no illicit substances were discovered at this location, authorities learned that the Nigerian suspect had rented an adjacent property solely for the purpose of concealing drugs.

During the subsequent raid on the additional residence, law enforcement officers uncovered 4 kilograms of MDMA, along with a weighing scale, three vanity bags, three black-colored carbon packing covers, and other items of value.

Chukwuemeka reportedly informed the police that he procured the narcotics from overseas via courier services. The drugs were discreetly packaged using black covers and concealed within vanity bags. Subsequently, Chukwuemeka would repackage them into smaller quantities for distribution, fetching prices ranging from Rs 8,000 to 10,000 per gram of MDMA crystal.

Having arrived in India in 2022 on a business visa, Chukwuemeka admitted to overstaying his visa expiration. He claimed that the drugs, concealed within black covers, often went unnoticed by authorities. In instances where they were noticed, they were typically mistaken for cosmetic powder or temple prasadam. Legal proceedings have been initiated against him under the NDPS Act and Foreigners Act.

Chukwuemeka maintained an organized clientele network, with orders being placed via phone calls or WhatsApp. Upon receiving an order, he would determine the price based on the quantity requested, collect payment, and discreetly package the drugs. To ensure anonymity, Chukwuemeka devised a unique delivery method wherein he would deposit the packaged drugs at a predetermined location, photograph it alongside a distinctive landmark such as a tree or electric pole, and share the image and location details with the customer via WhatsApp. The customer would then retrieve the packet from the designated location, allowing Chukwuemeka to avoid direct contact and maintain anonymity.
