In a harrowing incident that unfolded on Friday evening, suspected herdsmen abducted the spouse and domestic worker of Hon. Terwase Orbunde, former Chief of Staff to ex-Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State. The abduction took place near the Genocide Cemetery along Mobile Barracks-Welfare Quarters Road in Makurdi, the state capital, at approximately 6 pm.

The victims, identified as Mrs. Abigail Kashimana Orbunde and her house help, Patience Ogute, were reportedly returning to their vehicle after inspecting and compensating workers on their farm when they were ambushed by five armed individuals.

During the assault, Hon. Orbunde sustained a gunshot wound to his right arm but managed to flee, albeit with serious injuries. Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos, with villagers and passersby scattering in different directions following the gunfire.

The assailants forcefully abducted Mrs. Orbunde and Ms. Ogute, leading them to an undisclosed location. Witnesses recounted that as the group departed, the former Chief of Staff, bleeding heavily, was instructed to leave the scene while the women were taken captive.

Subsequently, Good Samaritans rushed Hon. Orbunde to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing medical treatment for his injury.

Hon. Orbunde had previously served as Chief of Staff during the administration of former Governor Samuel Ortom before resigning to vie for the PDP gubernatorial primary. Later, he joined the All Progressive Congress (APC) but was unsuccessful in securing a nomination.
