The Israeli security cabinet has authorized a tripartite war council to deliberate on Israel’s response following Iran’s launch of over 100 drones, ballistic, and cruise missiles towards Israel over the course of Saturday night and Sunday morning.

After a late-night session on Saturday, the war council, comprising Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant, and Benny Gantz, convened to formulate a course of action.

According to Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Daniel Hagari, Iran initiated numerous surface-to-surface missile strikes and unleashed a barrage of drone missiles from its territory towards Israel. The assaults persisted for approximately five hours.

The vast majority of these missiles were successfully intercepted outside Israeli borders by Israel’s aerial defense systems, Hagari reported in an early Sunday update. However, a handful of projectiles managed to breach Israeli territory, resulting in one hitting an IDF base in southern Israel, causing minor damage to infrastructure.

Furthermore, the Israeli Air Force successfully intercepted over 10 cruise missiles outside Israeli borders, while dozens of UAVs were neutralized before entering Israeli airspace.

“Our aircraft are currently engaged in intercepting targets, and we remain prepared to counter any threat posed to Israel,” Hagari affirmed. “We will exhaust all necessary measures to defend the State of Israel.
