A recent collision on the Oyo-Ogbomoso Road in Oyo State has claimed the lives of at least nineteen individuals, according to reports. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the tragic incident in a statement released to the press on Sunday.

The FRSC stated that the accident involved a Toyota Hiace Bus with registration number NTT52ZY, traveling from Ibadan to Sokoto, and a Toyota Corolla saloon car. The collision, which occurred around 07:45 a.m., was attributed to a route violation commonly referred to as ‘One Way’.

Jonas Agwu, the Corps Public Education Officer and Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM), verified this information in a statement issued from Abuja. He explained that the collision, resulting from a traffic violation, caused a head-on crash between the two vehicles, leading to a subsequent fire outbreak.

The tragic incident involved a total of 20 male adults, with 19 fatalities and one survivor rescued by FRSC operatives with injuries. The injured victim has been transported to Opabode hospital in Oyo for urgent medical attention, while the deceased have been deposited at Oyo General Hospital morgue, as stated in the FRSC release.

Corps Marshal Dauda Ali Biu urged the public to avoid actions that could lead to road accidents, emphasizing the need for sector commanders to enhance patrol activities to address route violations on the nation’s highways.
