Tragic Death: One-Year-Old Killed In Violent Incident In Lagos, Police Say....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the tragic demise of a one-year-old infant in the wake of an assault at Egan Oriomi, situated in the Otto Awori Local Council Development Area of Ojo, Lagos State. In an official statement issued to the press on Sunday, Benjamin Hundeyin, the State Police Public Relations Officer, detailed that numerous residents suffered injuries during the attack.

According to Hundeyin, the community was besieged by assailants on Saturday morning, resulting in the destruction of residential properties through arson. He disclosed that amidst the burnt structures, the lifeless body of a baby was discovered.

“On arrival, our officers encountered burnt homes and looted shops. Several individuals from the community also sustained gunshot wounds,” affirmed the police spokesperson.

Reports indicate that hoodlums stormed the vicinity on Friday night, unleashing a barrage of gunfire indiscriminately. An anonymous police source relayed to journalists that the ensuing chaos prompted inhabitants to flee for safety.

“These hoodlums, armed with various weapons, launched an attack on the community, shooting, breaking into homes, and causing harm to anyone in sight. The onslaught persisted throughout the night, leaving about ten people wounded,” recounted the source.

Furthermore, the attackers set ablaze several residences, leading to the tragic death of an infant trapped within one of the engulfed houses. The account of the ordeal, recounted by a distressed father, underscored the harrowing consequences of the violence.

In addition to the widespread destruction of property, the assailants inflicted significant damage, necessitating the deployment of security personnel to forestall a recurrence.

While some wounded victims, including an elderly man, were rushed to the hospital for treatment, others with minor injuries have since been discharged.

An unnamed community member, shedding light on the underlying cause of the violence, cited a longstanding dispute over leadership within the community.

“The root of this incident lies in a leadership dispute that has persisted for over eight years. The populace has resisted the imposition of a new traditional ruler, advocating instead for allegiance to a leader with ancestral ties to the community,” revealed the source.

Hundeyin, addressing reporters, acknowledged the existence of a leadership crisis preceding the violence, though refrained from directly attributing it to the tragic events.

“We’ve been grappling with a leadership struggle in the community prior to this incident, which we view as a civil matter. Our priority remains the preservation of peace and order, and we’ve been diligently pursuing that mandate. However, we are conducting an investigation to ascertain the underlying causes,” stated Hundeyin.

Efforts to reach out to the Executive Chairman of Oto-Awori LCDA, Prince Musibau Asafa, for comment proved futile, as he was reportedly attending a church service. Despite repeated attempts to establish contact through phone calls and messages, Asafa has yet to provide a statement regarding the developments.
