Sylvester Oromoni Snr, father of the late 12-year-old Dowen College student, Sylvester, has criticized the Coroner Inquest’s ruling that attributed his son’s death to negligence. According to Naija News, the Coroner Magistrate, Mikhail Kadiri, announced on Monday, April 15, that the teenager’s death was a result of parental and medical negligence. Kadiri stated that the boy passed away due to inadequate treatment of his enlarged liver.

The Coroner emphasized that the parents and their family doctor, Henry Aghogho (PW 3), in Warri were negligent after discovering Sylvester’s enlarged liver, and the delayed commencement of treatment ultimately led to his demise.

Sylvester Oromoni’s death on November 30, 2021, was initially associated with bullying and the ingestion of a suspected poisonous substance while at school. He had reportedly mentioned being assaulted by five senior Dowen College students prior to his passing.

However, on January 5, 2022, the Lagos State Government cleared the five implicated students and five staff members of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos, of any involvement in Sylvester Oromoni’s death.

Following the judgment, Sylvester’s father expressed his disagreement with the decision during an interview with TVC, highlighting that medical experts did not provide a definitive conclusion regarding the incident. He questioned the substance found in his son’s body, whether it was tested, and expressed his belief that the judgment did not accurately reflect the evidence presented.

Sylvester Oromoni Snr’s remarks suggest that the case is far from settled, indicating a possible continuation of legal proceedings.
